Description
Three performances featuring the conducting of Maestro Hans Rosbaud (1895-1962). Rosbaud was an Austrian conductor who is perhaps best known for his championing of the works of contemporary composers such as Schoenberg, Berg, and Bartók, premiering many of their works. Although his ability to present recent compositions was curtailed during the time of World War II, in 1948 he was appointed the first principle conductor of the Southwest German Radio Orchestra, where he continued to promote new music for the rest of his life. In this program you will here Rosbaud conduct the Southwest German Radio Orchestra in a performance of Schoenberg’s “Five Pieces for Orchestra,” the Berlin State Opera Orchestra in Beethoven’s “Piano Concerto No. 1” with Walter Gieseking as the soloist, and finally Webern’s “Six Pieces for Orchestra.”
