Description
Trimpin bends over to visually examine the interior of a piano that he was modifying so as to make it able to play compositions by Conlon Nancarrow. This photograph was taken prior to the 1st Other Minds Music Festival in Nov. 1993. Trimpin is a sculptor and composer who builds his own electronically controlled acoustic instruments, often using materials recycled from junkyards. A specialist in interfacing computers with traditional acoustic instruments, he has developed a myriad of methods for playing trombones, cymbals, pianos, and other instruments from a computer. He has also collaborated with Conlon Nancarrow, realizing that composer's piano roll compositions through various media.
