Description
Pianist and composer Michael Harrison, playing the piano, as fellow composer and performer Chico Mello, prepares to turn the page of the musical score, while also looking over Harrison’s shoulder. Harrison presented the world premier of his work “Tone Clouds” during the third and final concert of the 14th Other Minds Festival on March 7, 2009, at the Jewish Community Center in San Francisco. “Tone Clouds” is based on Harrison’s earlier composition for solo just intonation piano, “Revelations,” and shares the previous work’s alternate tuning. Harrison is a well known pianist with a long standing interest in different tuning systems who has designed his own “harmonic piano,” on which he can easily alternate between two different tunings using the same conventional keyboard.
