Description
In the late 1970s and early 1980s the Experimental Intermedia Foundation held a series of exciting concerts of avant-garde and electro-acoustic music at Phil Niblock’s loft in the SoHo district of New York City. These concerts were then packaged by Niblock into a series of hour-long radio programs entitled “Concerts by Composers” and distributed to interested radio stations around the United States. This second program in the series features music by Jim Pomeroy, Carles Santos, & Paul William Simons. The first two pieces are by Jim Pomeroy, the first, “Mozart’s Moog” is based on melodies taken from music boxes, while the second incorporates flute music with texts taken from the Beat poets of the 1950s and 60s. This is followed by a number of vocal improvisations or sound poetry by Carles Santos. Although perhaps best known as a pianist Santos here presents a number of vocal tracks in a style which is somewhat reminiscent of his French counterpart Bernard Heidsieck. The program concludes with a special radio adaptation of a much longer work of musical theater by Paul William Simons, entitled “Wanders of the West.”
