Description
The first concert of the 1990 Composer to Composer Festival began with announcements by the festival’s directors, Charles Amirkhanian and John Lifton. They address some of the changes to the program including the need to address social issues, making the topic of censorship a focus in the upcoming discussions.

The festival's participating artists (July 13-15, 1990) were: Geri Allen, Laurie Anderson, Henry Brant, Hugh Davies, Ge Gan-Ru, Robert Morris, Pauline Oliveros, Larry Polansky, Roger Reynolds, I Wayan Sadra, Leo Smith, Gerhard Stäbler, and James Tenney.

The concert begins with Gloria Cheng performing "Gu Yue" by Ge Gan-ru. Robert Morris then premieres his quadrophonic tape piece, "Four or Five Mirrors". The first half of concert ends with Geri Allen performing "Three Solo Works" on piano.

The second half begins with Charles Amirkhanian's piece for stereo tape and komungo, "Vers les Anges". Pauline Olivero's "The Truth is Beautiful No Matter How Ugly It Is: A Musical Exchange" features fellow festival artists Wadada Leo Smith and I Wayan Sadra performing with Oliveros. The concert concludes with I Wayan Sadra's "Daily", featuring Jody Diamond and Larry Polansky, as well as Sadra himself on suling.
