Description
In the late 1970s and early 1980s the Experimental Intermedia Foundation held a series of exciting concerts of avant-garde and electro-acoustic music at Phill Niblock’s loft in the SoHo district of New York City. These concerts were then packaged into a series of hour-long radio programs entitled “Concerts by Composers” and distributed to interested radio stations around the United States. This thirteenth program in the series features music by Scott Johnson, Moniek Darge, Godfried-Willem Raes, & David Gibson. The program begins with composer and sound sculptor Scott Johnson discussing his interest in composing music that incorporates the types of instruments and technologies that permeate modern society. We then hear Johnson perform the last two movements of his “Sonata for Electric Guitar and Harmonizer” recorded at a 1981 concert at the Experimental Intermedia Foundation in New York City. This is followed by two pieces for extended vocal techniques and instrumental accompaniment by the duo Logos recorded at a December 1980 concert at the Foundation. The Belgian based group Logos is comprised of Moniek Darge & Godfried-Willem Raes. The program concludes with excerpts from “John’s Brook” by cellist and composer David Gibson. The production and distribution of this program was originally funded by grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, New York State Council on the Arts, & the Beards Fund.Genres
