Description
Taken during the retreat at the Djerassi Resident Artists Program, prior to the 2008 Other Minds Music Festival (OM13), Other Minds Associate Director Adam Fong and composer Ishmael Wadada Leo Smith examine a score intently.

Ishmael Wadada Leo Smith is a composer and leading free-jazz musician. A member of the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians and co-founder of the Creative Construction Company with Leroy Jenkins and Anthony Braxton, Smith is one of jazz music’s most versatile performers. Born in Mississippi in 1941, much of Smith’s music has been influenced by his early exposure to Delta Blues and traditional improvised music of the Southern United States. Smith is the developer of his own system of notation, called Ankhrasmation, and has taught at a number of well respected universities, including Bard College in New York.
