Description
Eun-ha Park, William Winant and Hi Kyung Kim (l to r), having a discussion and drumming demonstration during their retreat at the Djerassi Resident Artists Program prior to their appearance at the 7th Other Minds Music Festival in March of 2001. Eun-ha Park is an acclaimed traditional Korean dancer and percussionist. As one of the first woman performer to achieve international status in her field, she has become a role model for women percussion players throughout Korea. Largely known as a percussionist, William Winant was born in Los Angeles to a family of accomplished actors and musicians. He studied at Los Angeles City College and Cal Arts before doing advanced studies at York University in Toronto in 1979. He returned to the West Coast to study with composer Lou Harrison at Mills College in Oakland and has performed with the Abel-Steinberg-Winant Trio, and many other ensembles. Hi Kyung Kim (born in 1954), a native of Korea, received a B.A. in composition from Seoul National University, and the M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley, where she received an Eisner prize in Creative Arts and two Di Lorenzo Composition Prizes.
