Alex Blake, Tigran Mansurian, Hamlet Sarkissian, and Hanna Kulenty (l to r), during their retreat at the Djerassi Resident Artists Program in Woodside CA, prior to the start of the 10th Other Minds Music Festival in March of 2004. Blake is gesturing with his hands while apparently making a point during an informal group discussion. Panamanian-born and New York-raised, Alex Blake draws upon his eclectic Latin and post-bop experience to create exciting and original music. Known from earlier Other Minds Festivals as the bassist for Randy Weston African Rhythms, Blake performed at OM10 with his own quintet. Tigran Mansurian is an Armenian composer and musician whose works often combine traditional Armenian music with more contemporary classical forms, and Hamlet Sarkissian acted as his interpreter during OM 10. Hanna Kulenty is a Polish born composer, known for her early energetic and intricate orchestral works, as well as her later, more minimalist compositions for chamber ensemblesGenres & Subjects
