Description
Pianist and composer Linda Catlin Smith, and cellist Gianna Abondolo, performing Smith’s “Through the Low Hills,” at the Jewish Community Center in San Francisco, as part of the second concert of the 14th Other Minds Festival, on March 6, 2009.

Born in 1957, Linda Catlin Smith is a composer, keyboard player, and educator. The recipient of numerous awards and fellowships, Smith has been active in producing concerts, giving lectures, teaching composition, and is a member of the performance collective URGE. Musically her works are often influenced by an appreciation for literature and the visual arts, and the simplicity of her instrumentation often belies an underlying emotional complexity.

Abondolo is a graduate of Juilliard, a former member of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, and faculty member at Mills College in Oakland California. She has performed as a soloist and in many chamber ensembles, and is also skilled improviser and composer.
