Description
Under the leadership of director John Adams, the San Francisco Conservatory New Music Ensemble has provided Bay Area audiences with one of the most significant outlets for the presentation of important new pieces by younger composers. In December 1978, Adams and his assistant Dwanye Smith led the all-student ensemble in four substantial and satisfying contempoary works, beautifully played and well-balanced programmatically. These included "...And the Darkest Hour is Just Before Dawn" by Berkeley composer Daniel Schmidt, "Skin Songs" by Bay Area native Conrad Cummings, "String Piece" by Charles Boone, and "Shaker Loops" by John Adams.Genres
