Description
Charles Amirkhanian visits Daniel Lentz at home in Santa Barbara, CA in February, 2023.
Lentz walks us through an untitled work in progress, inspired by Quantum science. He shows us some score pages for a section called "Pre Big Bang". He describes each part on the pages; first a very quiet part for strings, moving on to what Lentz describes as chaos, and an occasional bowed piano. Next, a somewhat logical structure starts to "infer" itself, ending in a quiet cluster, then Bang! When asked if he had a title, he said no; unlike Harold Budd who couldn't start without a title, he usually didn't get to it until the end. Lentz laments that for the last two days he had been "entangled" on a blank score page, which was a fancy way of saying he'd been "completely fucking stuck".
