Description
Nevil Gray introduces a program of 20th century classical music performed by the Hilversum Radio Orchestra and Choir, conducted by Kenneth Montgomery. The program begins with Frank Bridge’s “Enter Spring” a rhapsody. This is followed by Lili Boulanger’s “Vieille Prière Bouddhique” which takes as its text an old Buddhist prayer as translated into French by Suzanne Karpelès. This short work features tenor Hein Meens and leaves one wondering what other wonderful works this composer and sister of the famous piano teacher might have created if she had not died at such a tender age. The program concludes with Francis Poulenc’s “Stabat Mater,” another work for mixed choir and orchestra, this time featuring as soloist the soprano Francine Laurent-Gérimont.Genres
