Description
Harrison Kerr: Trio (1938)
The University of Oklahoma Trio:
Robert Gerle, violin
Gabriel Magyar, cello
Keith Wallingford, piano

The work is in three movements: allegro, grave, allegro. Material from the first movement reappears in the other two movements. The third movement in addition to new material, quotes from the first two movements, and thus recapitulates the work. Although there are passages in this compositon that are polyharmonic and polytonal, it contains fewer examples of atoanal writing than most later works by Kerr. The work opens in a minor, and returns to this tonaality in the coda of the last movement.
