Description
The fourth composers’ session on July 9, 1991 during the Composer to Composer Festival in Telluride Colorado.

G.S. Sachdev begins his presentation with “Introspection” a late night raga, he plays the first movement and explains the anatomy of the bansuri flute and the scales used for the performance. It is from his solo album “Full Moon”.

He then plays a Spring season morning raga from his album “Two Moods” with Zakir Hussain and explains the scales used in the work. He also notes that the first two works were in strict classical forms.

Next is a live performance of a “semi-classical” piece that allows for some shifting between raga forms with the Tabla master Jnan Ghosh. Zakir Hussain and the composers then discuss the evolution of Tabla styles over the years.

Sachdev then answers questions from the composers about the performance practice, listening practice, and function of classical Indian music, the collaborative nature of this type of music, and the generational transmutation of Indian music.

After this discussion Charles Amirkhanian wishes the composers goodnight.
