Description
The sixth concert of the 1981-82 season of the San Francisco Chamber Music Society featured the Jerome Neff Percussion Ensemble performing contemporary works for percussion by such luminaries as Carlos Chávez and John Cage as well as arrangements of many works by lesser known 18th century composers such as Louis Claude Daquin and François Joseph Gossec, among others. Also included is perhaps one of the first performances of “Mallets Aforethought”, a work by Wayne Peterson that was commissioned by the Chamber Music Society. Jerome Neff answers questions from the audience and provides extensive commentary on the works, describing the evolution of percussion music during the 20th century, demonstrating the various instruments, and otherwise enthusiastically promoting everything percussive. This concert was held on March 22, 1982 at the Fireman’s Fund Forum in San Francisco.Genres
