Description
In this program, recorded on December 10, 1972 at the Berkley Piano Club in Berkeley California, pianist Michael Sellers performs a number of works by Leo Ornstein. In addition to playing the complete “Poems of 1917”, Sellers also performs three selections from Ornstein’s nine part “Arabesques”. The selections heard are “No. 3, Chant of Hindoo Priests”; “No. 1, The Isle of Elephants”; and “No. 5, A Melancholy Landscape”. Also heard is Ornstein’s “Berceuse” and Debussy’s “Reflets dans l’Eau”, recorded on Ampico rolls by Ornstein himself on November 14, 1971 and played back for this concert on an Ampico grand piano, owned by Sally and Dale Lawrence of Kensington, California.
