Charles Amirkhanian is seen standing and looking over the shoulder of Trimpin, who is seen sitting looking up at Amirkhanian. The are both holding a long sheet of paper that appears to be a graphic music score or a computer printout featuring a series of graphs. This photograph was taken at the Djerassi Resident Artists Program prior to the 1st Other Minds Music Festival in Nov. 1993. Trimpin is a sculptor and composer who builds his own electronically controlled acoustic instruments, often using materials recycled from junkyards. A specialist in interfacing computers with traditional acoustic instruments, he has developed a myriad of methods for playing trombones, cymbals, pianos, and other instruments from a computer. He has also collaborated with Conlon Nancarrow, realizing that composer's piano roll compositions through various media.Genres & Subjects
