Germaine Tailleferre in Paris (1973)
Description
Germaine Tailleferre at her house in Paris in 1973. Tailleferre was the only female member of Les Six, a loosely affiliated group of French composers who revolted against Wagnerian excess in the 1920’s. She is perhaps best known for her songs and short works for the piano, many of which were written during the 1920s and 30s, and which are often described as short, warm, and charming. However, she continued to compose right up until her death in 1983, and produced a number of longer works including several concerti, ballets, operas, and film soundtracks.
