Description
Recorded on March 6, 1974 as part of KPFA’s annual fund-raising marathon, this is a live in-studio concert by Orao, a four-piece Serbian tamburitza band whose member are from the San Francisco East Bay Area. Tamburitza is a form of folk music popular in the Balkan peninsula, and which is performed on a family of string instruments, similar to the cello, bass, mandolin, and guitar. The players in this group are Voy Cheyovich, Joe Berkich, Art Rodich, and Milan Popovac. Charles Amirkhanian, and Marty Gellen are the hosts for this lively and entertaining concert, mostly devoted to traditional Serbian folk songs and dances, interspersed with brief appeals for donations.
