Description
Charles Amirkhanian moderates a panel discussion with Maja Ratkje, Joëlle Leandre, and Per Nørgård (l to r) at the start of the second concert of the 12th Other Minds Music Festival on December 9, 2006, at the San Francisco Jewish Community Center. Works by these three composers was featured during that evening’s concert. Per Nørgård is one of Denmark’s leading contemporary composer, and has explored many compositional techniques, including his own serial procedure called the infinity series. Joëlle Leandre is a French double bass player, improviser, and composer, who has written extensively for dance and theater, and has staged a number of multidisciplinary performances, and has collaborated with such greats as Merce Cunningham and John Cage, among others. Maja Ratkje is a relatively young Norwegian composer, whose works have been performed around the world to much critical acclaim. In addition, Ratkje is active as a vocalist and electronics player, as well as studio engineer, mainly in connection with the contemporary improvisation ensemble SPUNK, the noise duo Fe-mail, and the avant-garde group POING, with whom she performed at OM 12.
