Description
Recorded on March 25, 1974 at the Fireman’s Fund Auditorium in San Francisco, this is a concert of contemporary avant-garde music, presented by the San Francisco Chamber Music Society. Featured works include “Eucalypts II,” a trio for flute, oboe, and harp, by the Japanese composer Tōru Takemitsu. This is followed by the first three of Luciano Berio’s “Sequenzas,” scored for solo flute, harp and woman’s voice, respectively. A brief piece for three drummers, entitled “Raspberries” composed by the American Charles Boone is performed, before the concert concludes with a song cycle, “Ancient Voices of Children” composed by George Crumb with texts by Federico García Lorca. The concert features an ensemble of well-known West Coast interpreters of contemporary and avant-garde classical music, under the direction of Jean-Louis LeRoux.
