Trimpin standing over and modifying a piano so as to make it able to play compositions by Conlon Nancarrow. This photograph was taken prior to the 1st Other Minds Music Festival in Nov. 1993. Trimpin is a sculptor and composer who builds his own electronically controlled acoustic instruments, often using materials recycled from junkyards. A specialist in interfacing computers with traditional acoustic instruments, he has developed a myriad of methods for playing trombones, cymbals, pianos, and other instruments from a computer. He has also collaborated with Conlon Nancarrow, realizing that composer's piano roll compositions through various media.Genres & Subjects
