A smiling Conlon Nancarrow, seated in a restaurant, presumably taken a some point during his visit to San Francisco for the 1st Other Minds Music Festival in November of 1993. Nancarrow was a modern composer who specialized in works for the player piano. His compositions are famous for their rapid and complex rhythmic patterns that are largely impossible to play with human hands.
