William Parker talks to his fellow OM 9 participants during a meeting at the Djerassi Resident Artists Program in Woodside CA, prior to 9th Other Minds Music Festival, in March of 2003. Charles Amirkhanian (far left) can be seen listening.After entering the New York music scene in 1972 at the age of 20, William Parker quickly became the bass player of choice among his peers. Within a short time he was asked to play with established musicians such as Don Cherry, Bill Dixon, Billy Higgins, and Sunny Murray. In 1980 he became a member of the Cecil Taylor Unit, in which he performed for over a decade.
