Description
Stefan Hussong bends down to examine Joan Jeanrenaud’s cello, during their retreat at the Djerassi Resident Artists Program in Woodside Ca, prior to their participation in the 10th Other Minds Music Festival, in March of 2004. Born on a small farm outside of Memphis in 1956, Jeanrenaud began playing the cello as a child and quickly developed an interest in contemporary classical music. She studied with Fritz Magg and Pierre Fournier, before at the age of 22 she joined the Kronos Quartet, one of the premiere ensembles performing contemporary and avant-garde classical music. She remained with the quartet for over 20 years, premiering countless works by living composers before leaving to pursue her own individual interest in composition, electro-acoustic music and multi-media performance. Her work "Hommage,” which was commissioned by Other Minds, received its world premiere at OM 10.
