Description
Percussionist Warren Smith, bassist William Parker, and OM 15 composer/saxophonist Kidd Jordan (l to r),performing during the second concert of Other Minds 15, held at the Jewish Community Center in San Francisco, on March 5, 2010.

Although percussionist and composer Warren Smith (b. 1934) is classically trained, he is best known for his improvised jazz music. Beginning as a vibraphonist on early Miles Davis recordings, Smith has had a long and illustrious career performing with some of the biggest names in jazz, as well as fronting his own ensembles. In the 1970s and 80s his Studio Wis was a leading center for the free jazz movement that included such master improvisers as Oliver Lake, Anthony Braxton, and Wadada Leo Smith.

William Parker is a very talented multi-instrumentalist, improviser, and composer who has recorded and performed widely with a variety of world famous jazz ensembles.

Born in 1935, Jordan is a jazz saxophonist and composer of the first order, having performed and recorded with such legendary musicians as Cannonball Adderley, Ornette Coleman, Ray Charles, Cecil Taylor, Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, Sun Ra, and many, many more. He is the founder of the Improvisational Arts Ensemble, London Branch, and Improvisational Arts Quintet. In addition to his illustrious performance and recording career, Jordan has taught at Southern University for 36 years where his students have included both Branford and Wynton Marsalis.
