Description
Charles Amirkhanian, Lisa Bielawa, Jürg Frey, & Clemens Merkel (l to r), during a panel discussion held directly before the start of the first concert of the 15th Other Minds Music Festival on March 4, 2010.

Charles Amirkhanian is the Executive and Artistic Director of Other Minds and was the moderator for this panel discussion.

Composer and vocalist Lisa Bielawa was born into a musical family, (daughter of Herb Bielawa ), and has been playing music, singing, and even composing since early childhood. She has toured as a principal vocalist with the Philip Glass Ensemble since 1992, and is also the co-founder of the MATA Festival which is devoted to the promotion of young composers.

Jürg Frey was born in Switzerland in 1953 and began his musical career as a clarinetist, before quickly turning his skills towards composition. His works are often marked by simplicity and softness, and sometimes seem to bypass traditional structure and verge upon sound art and ambient installations. Frey is also a member of the Wandelweiser Komponisten Ensemble and a tireless promoter of concerts of contemporary classical music.

Clemens Merkel is a violinist with the Quatuor Bozzini, which presented Frey’s “Strichquartett II” during the first concert of OM 15.
