Description
Lewis Hill, poet, pacifist, and founder of KPFA. Born in 1919, Hill was a gifted student, who while attending Stanford University became interested in Quakerism and pacifism, causing him to seek conscientious objector status during World War II. At the end of the war Hill founded the Pacifica Foundation and started KPFA, the first listener sponsored radio station in the United States. In 1957 he committed suicide, perhaps due to his failing health at that time.
