Description
The Amsterdam Cello Octet, performing on stage at the Jewish Community Center in San Francisco, on March 5, 2009, as part of the 14th Other Minds Festival.

The Amsterdam Cello Octet (formally Conjunto Ibérico) was formed in 1989 and is one of the only ensembles featuring just eight celli. The unique nature of the ensemble has inspired a variety of contemporary composers to write works specifically for them, including Terry Riley, Arvo Pärt, Luciano Berio, and Mauricio Kagel, among others. Its repertoire also includes many Spanish and South American songs and they frequently perform with famous Latin singers. The members of the Octet are Robert Putowski (Artistic Director and soloist), Rares Mihailescu (soloist), Oihana Aristizabal, Sanne Bijker, Claire Bleumer, Wijnand Hulst, Lucie Stepanova, and Artur Trajko.
