John Schneider performing his “Tombeau for Lou Harrison: Jahla,” on stage during the 14th Other Minds Festival on March 7, 2009, at the Jewish Community Center in San Francisco.John Schneider is perhaps best known for his work with alternate tuning systems and frequently performs on an assortment of well-tempered, re-fretted, and adapted guitars. A composer, author, and educator, as well as an accomplished guitarist, Schneider was at this time a professor at Pierce College in Los Angeles and music director of the Just Strings ensemble which specializes in works with alternate tunings.
