Åke Parmerud, taken during the composer’s retreat at the Djerassi Resident Artists Program, prior to the start of the 13th Other Minds Festival, taken on March 5, 2008. Fellow OM 13 composer Michael Bach can be seen in the background on the far left of the image.

Swedish composer Åke Parmerud was born in 1953, and has been composing since his early twenties. Educated at the Gothenburg Music Conservatory, Parmerud has written for multi-media, video, film, dance,and the theater, as well as more typical instrumental ensembles. However he is perhaps best known for his electro-acoustic compositions which have won numerous festival prizes and been recorded for a variety of labels. A member of the Royal Academy of Music since 1998, Parmerud is also a teacher of composition and computer music.
