Description
Michael Bach, taken during the composer’s retreat at the Djerassi Resident Artists Program, prior to the start of the 13th Other Minds Festival, taken on March 5, 2008.

Born in Germany in 1958, Michael Bach, (a.k.a. Michael Bach Bachtischa) is a cellist, composer, and artist, well known for his explorations of overtones and harmonics, and extended cello playing techniques. In 1990 he created the BACH.bow, a uniquely curved bow that allows for the playing of multiple strings and sustained chords on stringed instruments such as the cello, violin, and viola. Bach is also an inventive composer, who often collaborates with a visual artist in creating sound installations.
