Description
Phil Elwood produced this memorial tribute to the great San Francisco jazz trombonist Turk Murphy, who died on May 30, 1987. Turk played in a number of Bay Area jazz bands during the mid part of the 20th Century and made a number of recordings as well. In this program Elwood plays a wide assortment of Dixieland influenced jazz tunes from the 1940s and 50s. Included are a couple songs recorded at San Francisco’s Grace Cathedral in 1977 as well as several from Turk's concert at Carnegie Hall.Genres
