Description
Organist and composer, Gerhard Stäbler is one of the most energetic exponents of progressive, political, new music in Germany. In an interview with Charles Amirkhanian taped at Stäbler’s home in Essen, he talks of his work and introduces a number of pieces that he performed during a concert of organ music held at St. Clement’s Church in Chicago on April 27, 1987. These works include “Flux” by Scott Roller; “Dream” by John Cage, a work originally scored for piano by transcribed for organ by Stäbler; as well as “Soul Trap”, the third movement of a piece for accordion called “California Dreams” and composed by Stäbler himself.
