Description
A recording of a concert given by the Bay Area Women’s Philharmonic featuring three works by women composers, Ethel Smyth, Peggy Glanville-Hicks, and Diane Thome, as well as one work Paul Hindemith. Recorded at the First Congregational Church in San Francisco on October 21, 1989. Founded in 1981 by Miriam Abrams, Elizabeth Seja Min and Nan Washburn, the Bay Area Women's Philharmonic, (later known as The Women's Philharmonic ), specialized in performing music by woman composers. Before its official disbandment in 2004 the orchestra premiered over 130 compositions, many of which it had commissioned.
