Description
Charles Amirkhanian, of KPFA in Berkeley and Han Reiziger, of VPRO of the Netherlands, interview Robert Commagere, mastermind of Genesis Records, in Los Angeles. The three discuss and present recordings of forgotten masterpieces by obscure, mostly 19th century Romantic composers, such as Herman Goetz, Stephen Heller, Robert Volkmann, Friedrich Kuhlau, Josef Rheinberger, and Mikhail Glinka. In addition, works by two virtually unheard of woman composers, Agathe Backer-Grøndahl and Cecile Chaminade are heard as well as some 20th century compositions by Zez Confrey, a novelty piano or ragtime composer that was a recent interest of Commagere. All the recordings introduced and discussed are taken from Genesis Record LPs, and feature many talented musicians.
