Description
Charles Amirkhanian interviews Michael Köhler & Nikolaus Einhorn, co-founders of S-Press Edition, which has released a series of tapes featuring recordings of performance poetry and text-sound compositions by such respected poets as John Giorno, John Cage, Brion Gysin, and Jerome Rothenberg. The three men discuss the history of experimental acoustic literature in Europe, providing fascinating insights on the early practitioners of the art such as Arno Holz, Raoul Hausmann, Otto Nebel, and Kurt Schwitters. They also compare the more radically ideological philosophies of the Dadaists and Surrealists, with the American Black Mountain school of poets, and the slightly more traditional poets such as Helmut Heissenbuttel and even Gertrude Stein. Also discussed is the relationship, or lack thereof, between avant-garde music and sound poetry.
