Description
From a Broadcasting Foundation of America program originating from Hartt College in West Hartford, Connecticut, host Tibor Banlaki introduces works for wind ensemble by Gunther Schuller and Arnold Franchetti, performed by the Hartt Symphonic Wind Ensemble under the direction of Donald A. Mattran. The first work is Schuller’s “Symphony for Brass and Percussion, Op. 16,” which is then followed by Franchetti’s little known composition “Chimaera,” scored for cello and wind ensemble and featuring David Wells as the soloist.

Note: Unfortunately the second part of this concert, which was to feature Igor Stravinsky’s “Concerto” for piano and winds is missing.
