Description
Two selections of contemporary horn music by American composers. First is “Etudes”, a horn duet by Peter Winkle, performed by the composer and Douglas Leedy, on April 1, 1965 in San Francisco. This is followed by Leedy’s own “Perspectives,” for solo horn, recorded at the University of California in Berkeley’s Hertz Hall in May of 1964. Both pieces are composed in a sparse, at times even somber, style, that was popular in contemporary classical music during the mid-20th century, with the later piece including a section where the musician seems to be speaking through his instrument.
