Description
A master of mixed-media performance, Susan Stone has been at the forefront of a group of artists creating experimental radio plays or Hörspiels. These are text-sound compositions which include elements of voice, language, narrative, and tape manipulation. Her exploration of the human psyche, particularly of female characters struggling with the elements of intimacy, is at the core of her subject matter. In this program, recorded on May 23, 1991 as part of the San Francisco Exploratorium’s Speaking of Music series, Stone talks with Charles Amirkhanian about her work and introduces selections from her compositions, including “Heat”, “A Desert Navigation”, and “Viscera”, as well as a piece created especially for this event.
