Description
Phil Elwood presents a retrospective program dedicated to the music of Louis Armstrong a week after the great musician’s death. The first half of the program is dedicated to Armstrong’s early career in New Orleans during the 1920’s. In the second half of the program, Elwood focuses on recordings that Armstrong made in the 1930s when he had become popular outside of the strictly jazz, mostly African American community, and had begun to perform more popular types of songs, including show tunes.
