Description
Recorded at a May 1970 concert held at Mills College in California, this is three songs by Donald Cobb with texts by Walt Whitman. The singer is baritone Edgar Jones, accompanied by an unidentified chamber ensemble. Rich, melodic, and lyrical, these three art songs skillfully avoid the pitfalls of shaky vocals and tinkling accompaniment that all too often is the hallmark of 20th century musical settings of poetry.
