Description
Although this program contains music only without any introduction and very little contextual information, it appears to be a selection of works by the Mexican composer, Julián Carrillo. A musical theorist and leading experimenter in microtonal music, Carrillo became well known for his work with what he called “el sonido trece” or 13th sound, a system including microtonal scales. If the minimal information available about this recording is correct, this program features Carrillo conducting the Lamoureux Symphony Orchestra in his “Triple Concerto for Flute, Violin and Cello”. The soloists are Jean-Pierre Rampal, Robert Gendre and Robert Bex. Also, heard are the “Cello Concerto in 1/4 and 1/8-tones” with Reine Flachot, and the “Concertino in 1/3-tones for Piano and Orchestra” with Bernard Flavigny. (from KPFA Folio)
