Description
During the 1985 Cal Arts Festival Charles Amirkhanian took the opportunity to talk with composer Bunita Marcus about her music, including her piece “Music For Japan” which was performed at the Festival by an ensemble that featured Aki Takahashi on piano. Marcus’ also discusses her primary musical influences which includes her work with Morton Feldman at SUNY Buffalo, where she received a Ph.D. in composition in 1981. Her discussion ranges through her involvement in computer and electronic music, her instincts with regard to instrumentation, her interest in very long compositions and how a live audience reacts to them, as well as her thoughts on teaching composition. At the time of this recording, March 8, 1985, she was teaching at Brooklyn College. (from KPFA Folio)
