Description
In the late 1970s and early 1980s the Experimental Intermedia Foundation held a series of exciting concerts of avant-garde and electro-acoustic music at Phill Niblock’s loft in the SoHo district of New York City. These concerts were then packaged into a series of hour-long radio programs entitled “Concerts by Composers” and distributed to interested radio stations around the United States. This fourth program in the series features music by Carl Stone, Arthur Stidfole, & Joseph Pinzarrone. The program begins with Carl Stone’s “Sukothai,” a tape work featuring the multi layering of a harpsichord melody in a style that is slightly reminiscent of a Bach canon. This is followed by a selection of lengthy excerpts of an unnamed improvisation by bassoonist Arthur Stidfole and pianist Joseph Pinzarrone. The two musicians provide some commentary on their performances which were originally recorded on June 4th and 5th of 1981 at the Experimental Intermedia Foundation in SoHo, New York City. The production and distribution of this program was originally funded by grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, New York State Council on the Arts, & the Beards Fund.
