Description
A live recording of a performance of Anthony Davis’ opera “X: The Life and Times of Malcolm X”. Based on the life story of Malcolm X, this exceptional modern opera successfully blends the traditional opera forms with examples of African-American musical styles such as jazz and hip-hop, and is sure to please contemporary audiences. The opera’s libretto is by Thulani Davis and is based on a story by Christopher Davis. Rhoda Levine was the stage director for the opera. The exact date, location, and cast for this production is unknown, however given the apparent size of the audience it seems likely that this was one of the earlier performances of an opera that has now been put on in many countries and has gained acceptance as one of the finest examples of modern American opera.
