Description
Recorded live at Earthquake McGoon’s in San Francisco,Turk Murphy’s Jazz Band plays two sets of energetic, foot stomping, Dixieland and Ragtime jazz. Whether playing old standards by Jelly Roll Morton and Ma Rainey, or some of his own compositions, Turk Murphy’s trombone playing was always of the highest quality. A regular on the San Francisco jazz scene as well as something of an international star, Turk was the premiere performer of New Orleans style jazz in Northern California for nearly 40 years . Murphy was the co-owner of Earthquake McGoon’s as well as the leader of its regular house band, and is clearly relaxed in this live recording as he introduces the song’s and members of the band.
