Description
A program produced by Charles Amirkhanian, while he was in the Netherlands as part of an exchange program with VPRO (Holland Radio). Amirkhanian reviews a number of European musical festivals, including a concert of Letterist music. In addition Charles interviews Pierre Boulez after a recent performance of his works. Also interviewed is the late composer Mauricio Kagel in Cologne, Germany as he prepares for the premiere of his work, “Zwei-Mann Orchester”, a work scored for homemade instruments, crudely operated by remote control strings and wires. Charles also interviews Walther König, owner of a bookstore specializing in art. The program concludes with a visit to the 7th Annual Cologne Art Fair, where the world’s greatest avant-garde galleries gather to display their wares. Charles interviews a number of gallery owners about the state of avant-garde art in Europe.
