Description
Charles Amirkhanian interviews British composer Gavin Bryars and plays a selection of his music during a pledge marathon week at KPFA. Bryars, born in Yorkshire in 1943, is one of a group of British experimental composers interested in minimal yet consonant music. He has composed for the theater and dance, as well as for the concert hall, and has written three full-length operas. In this program you will hear three excerpts of his work, including his “Jesus' Blood Never Failed Me Yet” with its haunting melody based on a loop of an unknown tramp singing a brief stanza. An always charming guest with a delightful sense of humor, Gavin Bryars certainly puts the fun into fundraising in this wonderful program.
